My calling and joy is helping people navigate struggles with hope towards healing and growth. As your therapist I look forward to walking alongside you through your personal journey.
From transitions, to anxiety, depression, relationship challenges including family of origin struggles, as well as loss, I have worked with adults and adolescents as they have sought healing and relief through a variety of life’s challenges. I have also worked with family members of people struggling with mental diagnoses and navigating challenging systems. With training in grief counseling as well as a variety of evidence-based approaches, your grief, shame, and other emotions will be given space to be tended to and seen.
Trust, safety, and rapport are key ingredients to an effective therapeutic relationship. Let’s be honest, opening up is not easy, and it takes the right relationship to be able to be vulnerable. I highly value the courage it takes to find a counselor that is the right fit for you. I will meet you where you are today and help you to identify stuck points in a kind, relational, non-judgmental, and encouraging manner.
I believe that our thoughts and beliefs have a direct impact on our actions as well as our physical, spiritual, and mental health. Together we will look at your thought garden, notice roots of thoughts and patterns, pull weeds that are no longer serving you, and plant seeds of truth to water and grow.
I believe the Holy Spirit is our true Counselor, Comforter, and guide that will be leading us throughout this process (see John 14:26). If not a Christian, however, no need to fret, I have worked in secular counseling spaces and will meet you where you are in your spiritual journey.
I am a Certified Positive Parent Discipline Educator and am becoming a Board-Certified Christian Counselor through the National Association of Christian Counselors.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Hope College in Holland, MI and a Masters of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Texas in Austin. While at UT I was involved in the GRACE (Gerontology Resources and the Aging Community in Education) Program. I pursued additional post-graduate training to secure licensure in Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
During and after undergrad I had experiences in social work, business, and ministry that have shaped the therapist I am today. One such experience was working for a Fortune 500 Company in sales and service. With having lived in different areas of the country I have learned how to build community and navigate the challenges of being in new areas."
Outside of counseling, I love playing games, being outside, doing crafts, exercising, gardening, and spending time with my husband and pup.
