Are you aware that codependency is a learned behavior that can be passed down from one generation to another? Often, the roots of codependency are found in one’s childhood. Therefore, one part of treatment involves identifying early childhood issues and their relationship to current negative behavioral patterns. Treatment will also include an educational component where people struggling with codependency can begin learning how to change their self-defeating behavioral patterns and faulty beliefs. Additionally, treatment will help each group member to get in touch with their feelings that have been buried since childhood. Being in touch with and learning to express their feelings is the beginning of the journey to recovery from codependency.
