My journey to becoming a counselor has been life-long. Through all of life’s twists and turns, I’ve seen God demonstrate faithfulness to provide comfort, healing, and growth. I believe this same faithfulness can be seen in whatever season you find yourself, and therapy is a powerful avenue God can use. Hopefully knowing a bit about my path will help you decide if I’m a good fit to partner with you in your work.
I completed both a BS in Psychology and a Master of Social Work. Also, I have obtained advanced licensure in clinical social work (LCSW) and credentials as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). I’ve been fortunate to work in a variety of clinical settings, including coordinating an intensive outpatient program, directing a substance abuse treatment program, providing clinical case management, and partnering with a department of psychiatry as a program psychotherapist.
In this time, I’ve integrated several techniques into my work with clients, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and practical coping techniques, a psychodynamic theoretical base, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the 12-Steps. In addition, I am committed to bringing the resources of faith into session (to the extent that you prefer), as I believe God can use discernment and truth to speak directly into your life. Regardless of where you are spiritually, I am always committed to maintaining a genuine, nurturing, and honest approach to my relationship with you. I will cut to the chase and will not ask you to do any work I haven’t done myself.
There are also a few areas I’ve come to specialize in, though I am comfortable working on a wide range of needs. Some of these include serving: those struggling with alcohol/substance abuse and their loved ones, young adults, the bereaved—especially those living through the death of a spouse, post-abortion healing, complex trauma and dissociative identity disorder, codependency, depression/anxiety, phobias, and family of origin issues.
Outside of work, you can usually find me spending time with my children and grandchildren, dear friends, or my two boxers Gunner and Murtagh. I look forward to exploring both God’s world and the life with Him that He continues to call me deeper into.
