I am passionate about helping those who are hurting find healing and freedom. As I have been on the receiving end of comfort, I count it a pleasure to be a vessel for God to provide comfort for the hurting. II Cor. 3-5 “Praise be to God…the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
I have been a Christian counselor since 1996. My past experiences include working in private practice in the Beaumont area for 12 years. After relocating to the Houston area, I spent 7 years in the Behavioral Health field, providing inpatient and outpatient clinical services. Most of my experience has been working with adults and adolescents in variety of areas including substance abuse/addictions, co-dependency, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, anger management and grief.
I received specialized training as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist from the Beck Institute and help individuals experience lasting positive change by identifying, evaluating, and modifying beliefs and behavioral patterns that are problematic. CBT is a fairly short term psychotherapy which focuses on the here and now. Because of its relatively short-term nature, by utilizing CBT, I can help individuals learn a great deal about themselves, their problems and strengths and how their beliefs, behaviors and feelings interconnect.
Based on the Gottman Method, I am trained to help couples in crisis; learn methods to process fights & heal hurts; establish dialogue about their grid-lock –conflicts; identify & implement interventions to create a shared system of values & meaning.
I regularly present at the TCLA Leadership Academy on topics such as Godly Identity vs Worldly Image; Overcoming Fear of Failure; Forgiveness: the key to Freedom & Learning to Dream again. I am passionate about exposing the strategies of the enemy (meant to hold people back from their destinies) and teaching tools that empower leaders to walk in the greatness God has for their lives.
I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) earning my MSW from the University of Houston with an associate degree in substance abuse counseling. I pursued additional post graduate training as a clinical supervisor and Certified Group Psychotherapist.
I have been married since 1974 and have 3 children all of which live in the Houston area. The joy of my life is to live within 10 minutes of my children and grandchildren. I am kept busy attending extracurricular/sporting events of our 10 grandchildren. I consider myself a life-long student as I am passionate about learning new things. I enjoy reading, vacations on Florida beaches, and jogging.
