Picking a therapist can be challenging; but time and again, research finds that the therapeutic relationship (not the approach or the theory) is most important for progress. There are so many wonderful therapists to choose from at HCCC, you almost can’t go wrong. So, to help, I’ll mention a few things that are distinctive of my approach.

First, I love being a part of HCCC because the door is already open to a distinctly Christian path of growth and healing. I am passionate (and nerdy) about theology and the Bible and believe the story of God’s love for God’s people is the healing narrative in which we find ourselves. I would love to integrate this into your work, if this is important to you. If not, please don’t be deterred! I have years of experience practicing in settings that are not faith-based, as well.

Here’s a bit more about my background. After getting a BA in Philosophy and Biblical Studies, I attended the University of Houston and obtained a Master’s in Social Work in 2013. I have since gained LCSW credentials and become a Texas board-certified supervisor. Early on, I was drawn toward trauma-informed approaches to therapy. While in graduate school, I participated in a trauma education fellowship, which included an internship serving children and families who experienced sexual abuse. I have also been fortunate to obtain EMDR training and have witnessed its fantastic effectiveness. It’s amazing to watch the brain heal itself.

One of the true gifts of my career has been the opportunity to work with a variety of clients on a variety of issues, in addition to trauma. I have worked with adolescents, adults and families in residential, intensive outpatient, and supportive outpatient settings. Over this time, I have been intensively trained in a number of other evidence-proven treatment models, including DBT and Radically Open DBT. (Look up RO-DBT! It’s newer and cutting edge but might just be for you.) It’s a commitment of mine to continue growing professionally as treatment models are enhanced and developed.

While I am comfortable using different approaches to serve clients with different needs, some situations have become particularly close to heart—including supporting parents of teens in crisis, clergy and church professionals, helping professionals, individuals experiencing spiritual crisis or church-related trauma, and young adults struggling with hyper-perfectionism.

When I’m not at work, I have the pleasure of being a wife, mother, step-mother, zoo keeper (for three dogs and a cat), and seminary student.  Good friendships, Tex-Mex, books, Diet Dr. Pepper, and moments of absolute silliness bring joy to my day-to-day. Nothing is more profoundly defining than being part of the family of God.
