I believe the relationship between the therapist and the client is of extreme importance in the therapy process, and I work hard to create an atmosphere of safety and hope. My work is focused and structured, using a cognitive-behavioral approach most typically. I also like many aspects of solution-focused therapy and am EMDR trained. The foundation for who I am and how I see the world is my relationship with Christ, but the degree to which I integrate spiritual beliefs into the therapy process is entirely determined by the client.
My areas of special interest in counseling include depression and anxiety, grief and loss, end of life issues, stress management, life transitions, and women’s issues. I would encourage you to choose one of my colleagues if you need assistance with custody issues or addiction problems.
My journey as a helper has included a variety of experiences over the years including working at an emergency runaway shelter; teaching parenting classes; developing programs, supervising volunteers and training staff in a counseling center; working in hospice with terminally ill patients and their families; and counseling military families in crisis. For more than fifteen years I have worked in faith-based counseling centers because I believe humans are multi-dimensional, and it is necessary to consider all aspects of a person—physical, spiritual, psychological and social—in the healing process.
I moved to the Katy area in the fall of 2010 because of a change in my husband’s employment after living 30 years in southwest Oklahoma. This has given me an entirely new appreciation for the overwhelming effect of change on our sense of well-being. In Oklahoma I taught on the university level for 9 years while I also worked in a Christian counseling center. Married to my college sweetheart, I have two grown children. I have recently lost both my parents after long illnesses. I enjoy reading, gardening, my pets, learning, and teaching.
