Before joining HCCC, Shannon worked in a variety of mental health settings. She worked for thirteen years with Rapha Treatment Centers counseling patients and their families during hospitalization for psychiatric disorders, chemical dependency and eating disorders. Shannon holds licenses in: Marriage and Family Therapy and Licensed Chemical Dependency counseling. She works with adults struggling with: chemical abuse/dependency and their families; adult children of alcoholics; adults struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, grief/loss issues, marriage and family relationship challenges and blended families, and wives of sex addicts. Additionally, she facilitates a closed group for wives of sex addicts. Shannon has been trained in EMDR. EMDR is a specific therapy used for trauma events. There are "little t" traumas, as well as, "big t" traumas. Traumas are best described as "frozen moments in time" and remembering the event can feel the same as going through the event the first time. Such memories have a negative affect on how one views and interacts with and in the world today. "Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest." Many of our clients arrive "weary and heavy-laden." Through the therapeutic process, one has the opportunity to discover that God is "gentle and humble in heart." By learning how to discover what lies behind (resolving/making peace with their past), they can "reach forward to what lies ahead" with renewed excitement and hope. Shannon's approach in psychotherapy is to help clients achieve their goals through exploring their feelings, helping them identify problematic behavioral patterns and working on developing healthier interpersonal relationships. After her husband's two year battle with cancer, Shannon was widowed in 1992. She was "blessed" in the year 2000 to marry Ron and become a step-mother to two precious girls.
